Environmental Studies Department

The Department of Environmental Studies happens to be one of the youngest departments of GPGCW, Rohtak. The DGHE directions made it mandatory for every student who took admission in the academic year 2011-12, in all the colleges of Haryana, to undertake one semester, compulsory course on environmental studies. Every student needs to undertake compulsory course on Environmental Studies at the end of second semester of the first academic year. The Department of Environmental Studies coordinates and teaches the Course on Environmental Studies to all students who are enrolled in other departments of the College. Environmental Studies is a highly specialized interdisciplinary subject and imparting environmental education therefore requires academicians who are trained in the subject. The Department of Environmental Studies comprises faculty who possess such qualifications and are highly qualified in their respective areas of expertise. The Department of Environmental Studies is well connected with eminent academicians, scholars, and researchers from various disciplines who have contributed significantly to the multidisciplinary field of Environmental Studies. The Department adopts classroom, field and project-based approach for teaching environmental studies and for ensuring that students develop an overall understanding of the subject. The Department also facilitates the participation of students in various environment related workshops, conferences and seminars.

Vision:

The vision of the department is to create and expand disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking, critical mass with moral and ethical reasoning and a good use of the earth’s resources.

Mission:

The mission is to enhance comprehensive understanding about various aspects of life forms, ecological processes and the impact of human activity on the environment.

Courses:

The Department of Environmental Sciences offers a compulsory course on environmental studies. Every student including Pass and Honors course needs to undertake compulsory course on Environmental Studies at the end of second semester of the first academic year. Environmental Science is also teach in Post-graduation classes, CBCS system, in second and third semester.
